Our History

The Carpinteria Woman’s Club dates back to 1894 when Mrs. Belle Oglesby Franklin began the club in Carpinteria after a similar club she was a part of, in Santa Barbara. She became the first President of the Woman’s Club. She also organized the Carpinteria Literary Club as a way for women to obtain higher education and self improvement. The Literary Club’s first courses of study were Shakespeare and pertinent American History. Over the next few years, membership grew and with it, areas of concern the Woman’s Club participated in.

TODAY

The Carpinteria Woman’s Club continues its mission to promote the arts, education, community action and philanthropy in a multitude of ways that benefit Carpinteria.

At our monthly meetings, held the 2nd Wednesday of each month, we offer guest speakers and presenters who share informative, lively and fun programs designed to connect members to vital nonprofit programs, educational classes and demonstrations, art workshops, and health and personal development opportunities that help build a stronger community as well as increase the wellbeing of participants. All meetings are opened to the public. Since COVID has restricted our ability to gather, we are in the process of developing more online meeting experiences.
